R.I.P HASSAN MGHENYI

A seasoned business journalist and statistician, Mr Hassan Mghenyi (pictured), who was one of the founding reporters of The Citizen, died yesterday after a short illness.

Mr Mghenyi died at his Mbezi Mwisho home in Dar es Salaam.  He leaves behind a widow and two daughters.

Mr Mghenyi, whose journalism career spanned 15 years, was also the chief statistician of Mwananchi Communications Ltd (MCL) newspapers.His demise leaves a gap in analytical business reporting at the company in addition to being a big blow to Tanzania’s financial news fraternity.

His death will also be immensely felt by the informed public, which he has tirelessly served through the economic indicators and analysis pages of The Citizen and Mwananchi.Mr Mghenyi, who hailed from Singida Region, was born on September 6, 1963.

He worked with The Business Times for eight years before joining The Citizen in 2004.He previously worked with Tanzania Housing Bank (THB) from 1982 until 1994.

He was a building inspector at THB responsible for building valuation, preparation of housing loans and building inspection. Before and after joining the news industry, he attended courses on various aspects of reporting and financial coverage. He completed Form Four at Ifunda Technical Secondary School in Iringa Region in 1977. Thereafter, he joined Dar es Salaam Technical College for a certificate in Civil and Building Construction Engineering.
